What is a Stage Door Canteen?

The original Stage Door Canteens were run by a volunteer organization and offered servicemen nights of dancing, entertainment, food, nonalcoholic drinks, and opportunities to rub elbows with celebrities. By November 1945, Stage Door Canteens were operating in eight U.S. cities and London and Paris. Stage Door Canteens entertained and fed 11 million Allied servicemen. The canteens were described at the time as “the most direct way we can give our pride, our gratitude, and Godspeed to our boys.”

Trees for Troops Delivers Trees From The Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm to Kuwait

We just received notification that our trees were shipped to Kuwait.

The first 320 international trees went out yesterday, from the state of Ohio, to 5 US Military bases in Kuwait.  The remaining International shipment is going out at the end of the month to Bahrain and Kuwait as well.  We are not informed as to where the trees are delivered to after hitting Kuwait, but we do know they go on to other bases from there.

We are still a little short of getting all the trees the Military has requested – on the west coast.  As we get closer, we are trying to get increased community support for the Trees for Troops program.

If you know of anyone wanting to donate, please let me know. Visit the Trees for Troops website at www.treesfortroops.org for more information.

This year The Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm has committed to a minimum of 100 trees. Our trees will be shipped to Luke Air Force Base located in Glendale, Arizona, home of the 56th Fighter Wing! We are offering an opportunity for the community to purchase a tree for $50. Any contributions will be accepted. Our farm will be donating $5 from each tree purchased to the Christmas Spirit Foundation. Trees can be purchased at the farm or by mailing a check to The Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm at 3949 Sunforest Court Suite 101, Toledo, Ohio 43623.

2010 Operation Evergreen October 15th – November 5th

Operation Evergreen is a program that was developed by the Ohio Christmas Tree Association in 1995. Since that time, The Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm has been collecting Christmas ornaments, cards and decorations in Northwest Ohio that get shipped overseas to United States military bases. This has been made possible with help from Girl Scout Troops in Anthony Wayne and Maumee, as well as at schools such as Lial, and St. Joe’s of Maumee. Other tree farms throughout Ohio are also taking part in this program. The 2010 campaign begins on October 15th and ends on November 5th.

Schools, businesses and other organizations can become collection sites for non-breakable, or handmade, new or gently used Christmas tree ornaments, banners, cards for military personnel, garland and tree stands.

Items collected need to be delivered to the Whitehouse Christmas Tree Farm on November 6th, located at 11500 Obee Road in Whitehouse, Ohio. Our sorting and packaging date will be Saturday, November 6th starting at 9am to noon. All hands are welcome to help sort & pack!

See the Operation Evergreen Page for support materials to download.
